THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team took on the Redlands Bulldogs under the lights at William Rolland Stadium Wednesday night for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener. The Regals came away with a 3-0 victory.

The first half was dominated by aggressive play in the midfield by both teams. The Regals held most of the possession in the first half but were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.

Cal Lutheran broke through shortly after halftime when Trinity Martinez crossed the ball to Sarah Tadeusiak who finished a half-volley to put the ball into the back of the net and give the Regals a 1-0 lead and earn her first goal of the season.

CLU doubled their lead in the 72nd minute when Riley Martin fired a beautiful shot from outside the box into the top right corner of the net. This was the first goal of the season for the Pasadena, Calif. native.

Sam Cornejo scored the second goal of her freshman campaign in the 84th minute after finishing off a well-timed through ball from Kali Youngdahl to give the Violet and Gold a 3-0 advantage.

Olivia Leyva anchored the Regal defense with her strength in the back line to preserve the clean sheet. Alysa Frazier racked up three saves between the posts to improve to 2-0 on the season and earned her first shutout of 2017.

Redlands managed only seven shots with three on target against the tough Cal Lutheran defense. The Regals fired off a 22 shots with 14 on target to dominant the attacking third of the pitch.
