NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After a season opening victory last weekend at home, the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team took a cross-country trip to Virginia where the Regals fell 5-2 on the first day of the Captains Classic against host Christopher Newport today.

In the eighth minute of action, Sarah Tadeusiak connected with Trinity Martinez who found the back of the net for the first score of the contest, which also marked the first of her CLU career. Christopher Newport equalized in the 32nd minute when Maddie Cochran scored on an assist from Kayla Locklear.

Once the second half rolled around, the teams continued to battle. CLU again took the upper hand, 2-1, on a Kali Youngdahl goal that Martinez assisted on in the 50th minute, but 25 seconds later, CNU knotted things up again on a Gabby Gollis score and went on to add to the tally a trio of times, in the 59th, 69th and 74th minutes.

A pair of transfers, Ava Poudyal and Joss Pereda, made her Cal Lutheran debut today.

Cal Lutheran (1-1) wraps up its East coast trip on Sunday against Virginia Wesleyan at 10:30 a.m. (PST).
