Regals Lose Season Series to CMS

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – California Lutheran University women's lacrosse played host to the Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday afternoon. Travel difficulties created a slight change in the normal pre-game timing, but led to only a very short delay to the start of the game.

The Athenas, currently in second place in the SCIAC, took the lead early and looked to reach a score that would keep the clock running for the rest of the matchup. That effort was stymied by Cal Lutheran when Giselle Bonilla scored her team leading 12th goal of the season. That helped set the score at 10-1 in favor of CMS at the end of the first period.

In the second quarter, the Athenas took advantage of an early yellow card on Cal Lutheran to score a man up goal and reach running clock. From there, they would add 5 more goals to enter the half up 16-1.

The Regal defense allowed 4 goals in the 3rd quarter to bring the score to 20-1.

The fourth quarter saw the Regals allow only 3 goals while adding one of their own. Sirena Borja recorded her first point as a Regal when she made a long run and beat the Athena goal keeper with a bounce shot.

In the end, CMS improved to 11-4 on the season with the 23-2 victory.

The next game for the Regals will be on Wednesday at 7:00pm as they celebrate Senior Night against Occidental.
