CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran traveled to Claremont, Calif. for another Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and fell to the Athenas 23-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Regals (0-6, 0-6 SCIAC) were pitted against a talented CMS squad (5-1, 5-1 SCIAC) and struggled to find any sort of rhythm offensively.

The experienced Athenas exploded for 18 goals in the first half, quickly putting the game out of reach. CLU stepped up on the defensive end in the second half as they only allowed five goals in the final 30 minutes.

The Regals were fairly efficient when it came to their clear attempts, racking up seven successful clears in eight total attempts on the night. The Purple and Gold also committed fewer fouls that their opposition as the hosts had 12 fouls while CLU had 11.

Carly Boccia was solid between the posts for Cal Lutheran, making 11 saves which is a season-high for the sophomore. The goalie also picked up five ground balls to lead the team.

Sloan Sanders and Shelby Ingram recorded two ground balls each while Sarah Mendez, Cortney Fukuda, Gehssa Gorospe, Malia Byun and Dylan Gallagher each tallied one ground ball in the contest.

Cameron Mendez registered Cal Lutheran's two shots on Wednesday night and put both of them on target.

The Regals hope to turn things around when they return to William Rolland Stadium on Fri, Mar. 20 at 7 p.m. for a non-conference matchup with Puget Sound (Wash.).
