Regals Downed by Undefeated Sagehens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran were faced with a tough task as they hosted undefeated Pomona-Pitzer inside William Rolland Stadium, and fell to the Sagehens 16-0 in their third Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup.

While the Regals (0-4, 0-4 SCIAC) struggled against a prolific offense, they managed to come out on top in the draw controls category. Cal Lutheran managed to pick up eight draw controls compared to Pomona-Pitzer's seven. 

CLU only surrendered one shot from free-position opportunities in the contest. The Regals also racked up 10 successful clears on the night, which is the most they have recorded this season. 

The talented Sagehens rallied for 12 goals in the first half, but the Purple and Gold stepped up their defense in the second half, allowing only four goals.

Cameron Mendez was fairly impressive between the posts, making nine saves. Arielle Esparza provided three shots with two on target to lead the team. Shelby Ingram made an impact in the midfield with five draw controls which was a game-high. Sloan Sanders picked up a couple draw controls while Sarah Mendez made her presence felt on defense with three caused turnovers. 

Cal Lutheran will look get in the win column when they host Chapman on Mar. 7 at 1 p.m. inside William Rolland Stadium.
