INDIO, Calif. — The California Lutheran women's golf team finished fifth, while junior Lauren Fesler tied for eighth, at the Bulldog Classic which was held Monday and Tuesday at the Indian Springs Golf Club.
The 36-hole tournament featured 17 teams and 99 individuals. The golfers played 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday. The Par of the course was 72.
Fesler led the Regals as she finished at 10-over par with a final score of 154 strokes. She was one of four golfers to record an eagle. Her eagle came on the seven-hole which was a Par 4 and 330 yards. She tallied the third-most pars at the tournament with 23. She had the second-best average on Par 4 holes with a score of 4.15. In round one, she fired a personal best 75 strokes and finished the round in the top-10. She shot a 79 in the second and finished in a tie for eighth-place.
Embry Riddle (Ariz.) took home the team title at 32-over par (311-297-608). The Eagles were the only team to tally a round below 300. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was second at 40-over-par (308-308-616) and Methodist rounded out the top-three at 52-over-par (305-323-628). Cal Lutheran was fifth at 62-over-par (314-324-638).
Sophomores Marissa McCardell and Erica Mitchell tied for 27th and tied for 30th, respectively. McCardell recorded a team-high four birdies. She shot a 79 in the first round and an 82 in the second as she finished at 17-over-par with 161 strokes. Mitchell was one stroke back at 18-over-par (80-82-162).
CLU junior Ally Gaskill rounded out the team score and tied for 39th at 20-over-par (83-81-164). Sophomore Hannah Pasco also competed for the Violet and Gold. She shot an 80 in the first round, but did not compete on the second day.
Cal Lutheran has one more tournament before competing at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships. The Regals travel Pasadena, Calif., to play in the SCIAC No. 2 at Brookside Golf Club April 7-8.
