DiMuro’s Double-Double Leads Regals Past Poets, 57-50; 10th Win of the Season

WHITTIER, Calif. Aliya DiMuro put up her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Cal Lutheran women's basketball picked up its 10th win of the season as they defeated Whittier, 57-50, on Wednesday night.

The Regals improved to 10-5 overall and 4-4 in SCIAC play. DiMuro was a force on the offensive and defensive end with her 10 rebounds being a game-high. Four of those rebounds were offensive.

Sara Mills and Janna Holley joined DiMuro in double-digits. Mills had 14 points, making four three-pointers, and added eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. Holley was all over the court with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.

The Regals outrebounded the Poets 46-30, which helped Cal Lutheran to a 12-4 advantage in second chance points. The Regals also shot 33.3-percent from three-point range while holding the Poets to just 15.8.

The game went back-and-forth as Cal Lutheran jumped out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter. Whittier fired back, taking the second quarter 15-10, and cut the lead to two points at the break. The Regals won the third quarter 16-10 and had a 43-35 advantage with 10 minutes to play.

In the fourth, Whittier chipped away at the lead and Cal Lutheran was up just 49-46 with 3:21 to play. DiMuro and Holley responded with back-to-back two-point jump shots and Cal Lutheran pushed its lead back to seven. It was the breathing room Cal Lutheran needed as the Regals took the game.

The Regals are back in action on Saturday with a non-conference opponent. Cal Lutheran is set to host UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at 2 p.m.
