Regals Basketball Reveals Schedule for Upcoming Season

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– The California Lutheran University women's basketball has begun practice at Gilbert Arena as they look forward to the upcoming season. Under first-year Head Coach Kelli DiMuro, the Regals prepare for a challenging, yet exciting, 2019-20 schedule.

The Violet and Gold will face off against seven strong nonconference opponents and then head into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play, featuring 16 contests against conference foes.

CLU begins the DiMuro era inside the friendly confines of Gilbert Arena when they host Northwest Conference (NWC) opponent Puget Sound on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.

A week later, the Regals will head to Oregon for two more matchups with teams from the NWC. Willamette will host Cal Lutheran Nov. 22 before CLU travels to George Fox to face the Bruins on Nov. 23.

This all leads to the first SCIAC competition of the season when the team makes way to Whittier on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.

The holiday season consists of a couple nonconference games before the bulk of the SCIAC schedule as the Regals will host Lake Superior St. on Dec. 20 and Bowdoin on Dec. 28.

Getting back to the conference slate, CLU goes back on the road for a tilt with Chapman on Dec. 29 before facing Redlands at Currier Gym on Jan. 4 for their first game in 2020.

A two-game homestand follows, as the Regals host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Jan. 8, tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Heading into the weekend, Occidental comes to town Jan. 11 at 4 p.m.

CLU will travel north for one last nonconference matchup when they take on in-state rival UC Santa Cruz Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.

The Violet and Gold will continue their 2020 campaign when Caltech plays host on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. before another homestand welcomes the Regals. The set begins with Pomona-Pitzer (Jan. 18) and then matchups against La Verne (Jan. 22) and Whittier (Jan. 25) will follow.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will host CLU for a conference rematch on Jan. 29 and then another two-game homestand gives the Regals some much-needed familiarity. Back-to-back contests against Redlands (Feb. 1) and Chapman (Feb. 5) take place before three road contests against Occidental (Feb. 8), La Verne (Feb. 12) and Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 15).

The final regular matchup on Feb. 19 against Caltech will be Senior Night for the Regals as the seniors will be honored for their hard work and dedication to the women's basketball program.

The top four seeded teams in the SCIAC will advance to the postseason tournament. The semifinals are on Feb. 27 and the championship is Feb. 29. The No. 1 and 2 seeds will host the semifinal round with the lowest remaining seed hosting the final. The SCIAC winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
