PASADENA, Calif. —The California Lutheran women's basketball team clinched a spot in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament as the Regals took down the beavers 79-46 Wednesday night in the Braun Athletic Center.
Every single student-athlete scored during the game for CLU (14-10, 9-6 SCIAC). The Regals final game of the regular season is against Redlands. The winner of the game will be the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
Kailee Yan scored a team high 12 points. She tallied a season-high four steals and had two assists. Natalie Ruhl and Jessi Westering came off the bench to score 11 points apiece.
Rylie Wada was next with eight points. Kiana Gray and Jade Jordan chipped in with seven and six points, respectively. Taylor Oshiro and Nayiri Aslanian both had five points. Kayla Watterson had four points, four rebounds and four assists.
Tea Carbullido matched Waterson with four points of her own. Grace Derksen, Danielle Roumbos and Jozie Tangeman rounded out the scoring with two points each.
The Regals had an impressive night from the field as they shot 50.8-percent from the field and 52.4-percent from three. CLU had the advantage in every single category. They had 23 assists compared to CIT's nine. The Regals outscored the Beavers 24-10 in the paint. The biggest difference was the bench scoring. CLU had 46 bench points and CIT had 10.
CLU had things going early and often and led CIT 15-9 five minutes into the game. The lead was single digits at the end of the first quarter with the Regals up 22-13. The Violet and Gold took control in the second quarter, outscoring CIT 20-6, and had a 42-19 lead at the half. The Regals had runs of six and nine straight points during the quarter.
Cal Lutheran kept the pressure on Caltech in the third and outscored the Beavers 21-12 and had a 63-31 lead to start the fourth. CLU cruised to a 79-46 victory.
The Regals end the regular season Saturday as they take on Redlands Saturday at 7 p.m. in Redlands, Calif.
