Regals Release 2017-18 Basketball Schedule

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's basketball program will be back on the courts in just under a week practicing for the upcoming 2017-18 season, which includes a dozen home games inside the Gilbert Arena.

Opening weekend sends the Regals to Santa Cruz, Calif. for the first of two trips to Northern California this winter. On Nov. 17-18, CLU is set to face host UC Santa Cruz and Pacific (Ore.) at 7:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively, to get things started. Roughly a month later, the Violet and Gold head back to the Bay area for the second UC Santa Cruz Tournament that is set for Dec. 20-21 when the Regals will play Wartburg (Iowa) and Catholic (Washington D.C.) at 4:00 p.m. each day.

Between the two trips, Cal Lutheran will play The Master's College (Nov. 22) on the road before a four-game homestand from Nov. 30 to Dec. 9. CLU welcomes the UCSC Banana Slugs to its home court on Nov. 30 at 6:00 p.m. as the final tune-up before getting Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play underway on Dec. 2 against La Verne at 4:00 p.m. On Dec. 6, CLU welcomes Occidental for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off and the stretch concludes with a non-conference meeting against NAIA Westmont (Dec. 9) at 2:00 p.m.

After the second out-of-area trip, Cal Lutheran will host the Regals Classic (Dec. 28-29) that will feature Buena Vista (Iowa), La Verne and Pacific Lutheran (Wash.). CLU plays sister program PLU on Dec. 28 at 4:00 p.m. and follows up on Dec. 29 with a 4:00 p.m. tip-off against Buena Vista.

The remainder of the regular season is comprised of all SCIAC contests, beginning Jan. 3 and running through Feb. 17. Cal Lutheran will host Chapman (Jan. 8), Redlands (Jan. 13), Caltech (Jan. 17), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Jan. 27), Whittier (Jan. 31) and Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 10), which also doubles as senior day. Road dates include, Jan. 3 (Whittier), Jan. 6 (Pomona-Pitzer), Jan. 20 (La Verne), Jan. 24 (Occidental), Feb. 3 (Chapman), Feb. 5 (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Feb. 14 (Caltech) and Feb. 17 (Redlands).

The top-four teams in the SCIAC standings at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Feb. 22 and 24. The highest two seeds will host the semifinal rounds with the championship game moving to the venue of the highest remaining seed. The tournament champion earns the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships, which will get underway in early March.
