Bulldogs Fend Off Regals, Take Both Games

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Cal Lutheran softball had a rough offensive out against Redlands as the Bulldogs defeated the Regals twice, 11-3 (6 inns.) and 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Hutton Field.

In 13 innings, the Regals (5-9, 1-7 SCIAC) could only put up four runs and left six runners on base in the first game and seven in the second.

Game 1

After a single from Marissa AlfaiaLauren Salvati singled, pushing Alfaia to third. Danielle Chatman made it three singles in the inning as she knocked in Alfaia. Kendall Marinesi then singled up the middle and the bases were loaded with one out. However, the Regals could not convert, as Redlands got out of the inning with a line drive out and a fly out.

The Bulldogs answered in the top of the fourth with five more runs and had a commanding 9-1 lead when the inning was all done. Both teams added two more runs the rest of the way as Redlands won the contest 11-3. Marinesi and Jordan Vallejo recorded a RBI each.

Just like the first game, Redlands answered when the Regals scored. The Bulldogs put up three runs in the top of the third and took a 3-1 lead. They added one more in the fifth and it was all they needed as UR won the game 4-1.

Olivia Serrano kept the Bulldogs offense under control, but the Regals' offense could not supply her with the runs she needed as she took the loss. In seven innings, she gave up nine hits and four earned runs, as she fell to 1-5 on the year.

The Regals are back at it on Sunday with a non-conference opponent. Cal Lutheran welcomes Cortland for a doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m.
