Leyva Homers Versus Poets

Leyva Homers Versus Poets

WHITTIER, Calif. — The California Lutheran softball team got back to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action, but got swept by Whittier College as the Poets won the first game 10-2 and the second game 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Palmer Field.

It was a tale of two different stories in the games. The first game saw lots of scoring and only lasted five innings as Whittier (9-7-1, 3-4 SCIAC) won.

Olivia Leyva had the bright spot in the game for the Regals as she hit a homerun. Antonia Rapisardi added the second run for CLU. She singled through the right side and Makenna Pellerin came in to score.

The second game went the distance and then some. Cal Lutheran's (7-9, 1-5 SCIAC) Olivia Serrano was on point and pitched the entire game. She pitched 7.2 innings and struck out two batters. She didn't allow a run until the bottom of the eighth, which gave Whittier the win.

The Regals had a runner in scoring position in the top of the third. Sienna Perez singled up the middle. She then advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt by Mikaela Mayhew. That was as far as she would get as CLU couldn't capitalize. Cal Lutheran had another chance in the top of the fourth, but Kendall Marinesi was stranded at second.

Cal Lutheran looks to rebound on Sunday as the Regals host Westminster (Mo.) for a doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m. at Hutton Field.

Box Score: WC 10, CLU 2 (5 innings); WC 1, CLU 0 (8 innings)
