Regals Take One of Two from Wildcats

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran softball team took one of two games from the Linfield Wildcats as the Regals won the first 9-4, but got shut out in the second 9-0 Monday afternoon at Hutton Field.

The Regals (5-3) spilt a double header for the third straight time. Linfield (2-3) was able to bounce back in the second game.

Cal Lutheran had the bats going early and often in the first game. Jacy Watanabe led the Violet and Gold with four RBI and Kendall Marinesi had three more.

The Regals struck right away, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. With runners on second and third, Olivia Leyva grounded out to second and Watanabe came in to score. Marinesi was up next and singled in Marissa Alfaia.

In the bottom of third, the Regals cashed in big time. With the bases loaded, Watanabe hit a grounder and Linfield's pitcher had a throwing error on the play. That cleared the bases and allowed Watanabe to run all the way around the bases and also score.

The defense was stellar the rest of the game and made some big plays. Olivia Serrano pitched the complete game and struck out two batters. The Regals won the game 9-4.

The Wildcats answered back in the second. CLU used three pitchers during the five-inning game and Sienna Perez had her first loss of the season. Linfield's Eliza Rossman shut out the Regals and only allowed three hits, while striking out two, over the five innings.

The Regals are back in action Saturday and travel to La Verne, Calif., to take on the La Verne Leopards Saturday in a double header. The games are at noon and 2 p.m.
