CLAREMONT, Calif. — Two Kingsmen made their move into the Cal Lutheran Cross Country record books Saturday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Juniors Nikita Khromets and Rigoberto Baza Carillo both ran lifetime personal bests, placing them into the top ten times recorded on the course in program history.
Khromets broke the 27-minute mark in the 6K for the first time in his career and became one just six Kingsmen to ever break the mark. His 26:57.6 was good for 21st and the sixth fastest time in Cal Lutheran history on the course.
Baza Carillo also recorded a personal-best with a 27:12.9 on the day, finishing in 25th. His time moves him into the nine sport in the all-time list on the course which the Kingsmen have been running since 2009.
Junior Connor Richter ran a lifetime personal record in the meet as well, breaking his previous best for the third consecutive week. He ran a 35:22.6 on the morning, crossing the line in 92nd.
Finishing within the half hour mark, sophomore Connor Neufeld-Griffin came in third amongst the team at 28:05.2 and 39th overall. Just behind him, junior Henry Friederichs came in at 28:40.6 (52nd), junior Rudy Correa at 29:33.9 (63rd) and freshman Luke VanKeerbilck at 29:39.8 (67th).
Junior Jules Newberry ran a 31:25.2 (81th) and freshman Xavier Reynoso ran a 31:43.2 (83rd) to round out the group.
The team now looks toward the SCIAC Championships on Saturday, October 27. The race kicks off at 9 a.m. at Prado Park in Chino Hills, California.
