No. 3 Kingsmen Take No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer to Overtime

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — No. 3 Cal Lutheran men's water polo took No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer into overtime as the Sagehens escaped with a 16-13 win on Wednesday night. 

The Kingsmen battled all the way to the end answering every call from the Sagehens. The loss makes Cal Lutheran 3-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. It was the first conference game for the Sagehens and they are 6-7 overall. 

The game had seven ties, including six in the second half. From 4:08 in the third to 1:57 in overtime, the Kingsmen matched the Sagehens with six goals each during that stretch. The Sagehens made their after that, outscoring the Kingsmen 5-1 over the final 4:35. 

Bo DuBois was in goal and made 10 saves, for a percentage of .385, and added two steals and one assist. 

Dillon Goldsmith led the way with four goals and Taylor Garcia added a hat trick. Ben Brown and Luke Mattheis both scored two goals.

Brown kept the offense moving, getting all of his teammates involved. He dished out a game high five assists. Cole Weiderman put his team in position for goals with six drawn ejections. 

On defense, eight Kingsmen recorded a steal. Goldsmith, Brown and Adam Dow matched DuBois with two. 

Cal Lutheran looks to get back into the win column this Friday at the Gary Troyer Invitational which is hosted on the campus of Pomona-Pitzer. Cal Lutheran take on Air Force at 11:20 a.m. and Long Island at 3:20 p.m.
