Big First Half Propels Kingsmen Past Beavers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—Cal Lutheran men's water polo had 10 different goal scorers as the Kingsmen took down the Caltech Beavers 13-8 on Wednesday night.

The Kingsmen (14-11, 7-5 SCIAC) used a big first half as they coasted to another SCIAC victory, putting the pressure on Chapman and Redlands for that fourth and final spot in the conference tournament.

The Kingsmen scored five goals in each of the first two quarters and the defense shut down the Beavers only allowing one goal in the first and two in the second. The 10-3 lead at the half was more than enough as they reserves came in for CLU and took care of business the rest of the way.

Ben BrownDillon Goldsmith and George Lundgren led the team with two goals each and seven more Kingsmen added one. Cal Lutheran shared the wealth as seven Kingsmen dished out an assist with Tanner Kaplan and Brown having two each.

The defense was on point in the first half and shut out the Beavers in the fourth quarter. Altogether, nine Kingsmnen tallied a steal as Angelo Devito and Goldsmith both had the most with two.

Three goalies saw action for CLU as Andre Rivas played the first quarter, Jonathan Salandi was in for the second and Jackson Bottenberg had the cage for the second half. Rivas came up with three saves, Salandi tallied two and Bottenberg had four.

Cal Lutheran swept Caltech on the year as they pick up a much needed win. The Kingsmen only have two games left in the SCIAC race and are on the road for both. The next challenge for the Kingsmen is the Chapman Panthers on Saturday at 11 a.m.
