Kingmen Get First SCIAC Win; Dominate Beavers

PASADENA, Calif.George Lundgren scored four goals and Seth Hightower and Parker Jory dished out three assists apiece as Cal Lutheran men's water polo dominated in a 16-2 win over Caltech on Wednesday night.

The Kingsmen broke their six-game losing streak and won their first conference game as they improved to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in SCIAC. 

Cal Lutheran jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter, while goalkeeper Andre Rivas recorded five saves. Lundgren kept the offense going in the second, scoring two goals, as the Kingsmen ended the half up 8-1.

It was the same story in the second half, as the CIT defense was no match for the Kingsmen. Seven different players scored for CLU, as they outscored the Beavers 8-1, leading to a 16-2 victory.

In all, 11 Kingsmen scored with Lundgren leading the pack.Tanner Kaplan and Dillon Goldsmith both scored twice while Stephen BlaauwHans ColeAngelo DevitoDavid BrandtTaylor GarciaWyatt Lowe and Cole Weiderman all chipped in with one.

The CLU offense recorded 64-percent on its shots and was 4-for-11 on power plays, while holding CIT to 1-of-8. Kaplan and Weiderman both led the way with two drawn ejections each.

From a shot standpoint, it was even, as Cal Lutheran and Caltech both tallied 25. CLU was on its game, defensively, as Rivas totaled seven saves and the defense recorded 15 steals. Ben Brown had a team-high three steals and Hightower, Lowe, and Lundgren all had two. 

After a much needed win, Cal Lutheran continues their road trip at the Pomona-Pitzer Troyer Invitational. The Kingsmen start the tournament on Friday with Santa Clara Friday at 12:20 pm and Johns Hopkins at 4:20.
