Kingsmen Compete in SCIAC Postseason Tournament

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran men's water polo team advanced to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament and will travel to Pomona-Pitzer for a semifinals match Friday at 7 p.m. 

This is the first time since 2014 that the Kingsmen have been in the tournament. CLU finished the regular season 8-6 in SCIAC play and 16-11 overall. Cal Lutheran grabbed the fourth-spot via a head-to-head tiebreaker with Redlands. The Kingsmen defeated the Bulldogs, 8-7, during the season to claim the tiebreaker.

No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer enters the postseason with a 14-0 mark in SCIAC play. The Sagehens are 22-8 overall. The other semifinals match includes No. 2 Whittier and No.3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament final will be on Sunday at the campus of the highest remaining seed. 

George Lundgren and Ben Brown lead the Cal Lutheran offense with 45 goals each. Dillon Goldsmith is next with 44 goals and Wyatt Lowe has added 31 more. The offense moves the ball well and Brown has a team-high 35 assists. Stephen Blaauw has 16 assists, Lundgren has 14 and Matt Fong has 10 more.

A lot of Kingsmen draw ejectionsm to set them up with power play opportunities. Goldsmith has 33, Fong has 29, Justin English has 28, Lowe has 26 and Brown has 22.

Defensively, Brown has 52 steals. Fong has 46, Lundgren recorded 45 and Blaauw added 32. Andre Rivas has been the main goalie for CLU and has started 21 games. He has 188 saves, 21 steals and 16 assists.  

The winners of the semifinals matchups will square off Sunday in the final.
