Nine Kingsmen Score as Cal Lutheran defeats Cerritos

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran men's water polo showed dominance on both sides of the ball as the Kingsmen took down the Cerritos Falcons 16-7 Friday night in the Samuelson Aquatics Center. 

Nine Kingsmen scored in the win as Cal Lutheran connected on 16 of their 25 shots. The Violet and Gold moved to .500 on the year and is now 9-9 overall. 

Wyatt Lowe and Tanner Kaplan both recorded a hat trick for the Kingsmen. Kaplan added one steal, one assist and one drawn ejection. Lowe tallied a steal.

Matt Fong, George Lundgren and Parker Jory each put up two goals. Fong tied for the team lead with two steals and Lundgren added one steal and one assist.

Matt Binckley, Kyle Crist, Taylor Garcia and Dillon Goldsmith rounded out the scoring for the Kingsmen. Justin English led the team with two assists, while Goldsmith tallied the most drawn ejections with two. 

Andre Rivas was in goal for the first three quarters and made seven saves. Jonathan Salandi was in the cage for the fourth and made two. Both goalies had two assists. 

Cal Lutheran came out on fire and scored the first three goals. They added three more after a Cerritos goal and led 6-1. The teams split in scoring over the end of the first and the entire second as the Kingsmen held a 9-4 lead at the half.

CLU kept the momentum going in the third quarter and outscored the Falcons 4-1 and had a 13-5 lead entering the fourth. The Kingsmen outscored the Falcons in every quarter, 3-2 in the fourth, and won the game 16-7.

The Kingsmen jump right back into SCIAC play for their next game. Cal Lutheran host Redlands Tuesday at 4 p.m.
