Kingsmen Water Polo Earns ACWPC All-Academic Team Award

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The California Lutheran men's water polo team was awarded the 2017 Men's All-Academic Team Awards, announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). Individually, 13 Kingsmen received All-Academic Awards.

Cal Lutheran ranked 16th in overall Team GPA among all Divisions. The Kingsmen were the fourth highest in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) with a 3.10 grade point average (GPA), just .01 behind Pomona-Pitzer. Other SCIAC teams to earn the award were Caltech (3.51) and Chapman (3.29).

Teams had to have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher to earn the award. Individuals had to have at least a 3.20 to earn the award. For individual awards, the three categories include Outstanding (4.0-3.71), Superior (3.70-3.41) and Excellent (3.40-3.20).

The Kingsmen had two student-athletes make the Outstanding list as Taggart Diehl and Andre Rivas represent the Violet and Gold.  

CLU's George French and Chris Gardhouse earned the Superior award.  

For the Excellent award, Justin English, Matt Fong, Seth Hightower, Jack Kirby, George Lundgren, Kevin Oetken, Parker Jory, Jake Venckus and Zach Zamecki all received recognition.

The mission of the ACWPC is to promote the development and advancement of collegiate water polo.  This shall be accomplished by providing its membership with professional education, services, training and a united voice.
