THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced student-athletes from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) who earned 2017 ACWPC Men's Varsity Division III All-America honors yesterday.
Cal Lutheran's Chris Gardhouse garnered First Team recognition for his first time. He was recognized on the Second Team in 2016 and in 2015 he earned Honorable Mention. A center defender, Gardhouse led the Kingsmen with 59 goals, which landed him ninth in CLU single-season history and fourth in all-time for career goals with 162. The Agoura, Calif., native was a force to be reckoned with offensively and defensively. He finished the season with 57 drawn ejections, landing him second in single-season history as well as second in all-time history with 175. The senior also tallied 24 assist this season.
Kingsmen Nick Loomis and Davy Thomas were voted Honorable Mention All-Americans. Loomis recorded a single-season record in 2016 with 284 saves and finished his senior season with 230 saves, moving him into seventh in single-season history. He left a mark in CLU history, as he finished his career with 749 saves, moving him into first in all-time history. Senior attacker, Thomas started in 18 out of the 19 games played this season. Offensively he was a threat, as he was second on the team with the most goals finishing with 27.
There were 17 other SCIAC student-athletes who were named ACWPC All-Americans and Caltech head coach, Jon Bonafede, was voted the 2017 SCIAC Coach of the Year, becoming the first Beavers' coach to win the award.
