THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran men's volleyball team swept Brooklyn College (25-8, 25-14, 25-9) Thursday night inside Gilbert Arena. Cal Lutheran has won three matches in a row, giving the Kingsmen a 4-2 overall record.

Justin Dietrich led the team with eight kills and had an outstanding hitting percentage of .800. Andrew Reina was close behind Dietrich, as he added seven kills and had a hitting percentage of .700. Grant Nelson had 18 assists and tallied eight digs. Mason Mercer and Alec Bennett each added three digs, while freshman Marc Quezada added two.

The Kingsmen came out strong as they took a 5-0 lead in the first set and persisted to take control as the game continued. Cal Lutheran scored eight straight points and went on to win the first set 25-8.

The Violet and Gold took another early lead, but the Bulldogs got three points in a row to lessen the distance. Kelly Jew landed an ace while Mercer contributed three kills to help the Kingsmen take the second set 25-14. 

Cal Lutheran started off the third set very similar to the previous ones. Brendan Ward went on a seven point service run, helping the Kingsmen take a 10-1 lead. Nick Christy and Andrew McFarlane landed an ace apiece and added two kills each. Brooklyn tried but were unable to make a comeback from the deficit. Cal Lutheran finished off the set 25-9 and swept the Bulldogs.

Ahmed Moawad led Brooklyn with six kills while Moaz Ali Choudhary added five. Snigdho Hasan and Sayuj Zachariah contributed defensively with four digs apiece.

The Kingsmen will take to the court again tomorrow as they face North Central (Ill.) at 7:30 p.m. in Gilbert Arena.
