Curtin Breaks Pole Vault Record, MacKinnon Wins Three Events at SCIAC Multi-Dual #1

PASADENA, Calif. —  Cooper Curtin broke the school record in the pole vault and Jake MacKinnon won three events as the California Lutheran University men's track & field team won five events at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 on Saturday afternoon. 

The Kingsmen faced off against Cal tech & Occidental. They defeated Caltech with a score of 107-40, but fell to Oxy 98-61. 

Curtin now holds the program's record in the pole vault as he cleared 4.65 meters. The pole vault record at Cal Lutheran has stood since 1976 which Scott Johnson set with 4.64 meters at the NCAA Championships. Cooper is the only Kingsmen in the last decade to break into the top-10 list for the event. 

MacKinnon dominated the throwing events as he won the hammer throw, shot put and discus. He had a distance of 43.59 meters in the hammer, 12.93 in the shot put and 36.80 in the discus. 

Connor Judd took first to make it four Kingsmen with a win. Judd won the high jump as he cleared 1.70 meters. 

Brendon Carbullido was the runner-up in one event. He placed second in the triple jump with 12.25 meters.  

The Kigsmen took bronze in five events. Bryan Bugni and Timothy Thompson both won two each. Bugni was third in javelin (42.36m) and high jump (1.60m) while Thompson was third in hammer (32.19) and discus (31.42m). 

The Purple and Gold were also third in the 400-meter relay. Hasant Moses-Hillman, Carbullido, Bugni and Noah Gaudi took bronze with a time of 44.81 seconds.  

The Kingsmen are back in action next Saturday, March 12, at the Occidental Distance Carnival.
