Khromets Breaks into Program Record Book; Dees, Flores Record Top-10 Finishes

LOS ANGELES — Nikita Khromets put his name in the Cal Lutheran record books for the 3,000-meter steeplechase while teammates Anthony Flores and Obasi Dees placed top-10 in their respective events as Kingsmen track and field competed at the Occidental Invite on Saturday.

As the regular season is winding down, the Oxy Invite was the second to last event for Kingsmen individuals and relay teams to qualify for the NCAA championships. 

Khromet turned in the ninth fastest time in program history for the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he crossed the finish line with 9:58.76. He placed 34th in the event as his new personal best helped him break into the CLU record books.

Flores turned in the top mark for the day. Flores competed in the hammer throw and placed sixth with a distance of 42.10 meters. Dees made it two Kingsmen with a top-10 mark as he finished the 100-meter dash in eighth place with a time of 10.84. 

Dees turned right around and ran in the 200-meter dash as well. He posted two top-15 marks as he finished 14th with 21.86. 

The Violet and Gold saw five top-20 marks on the day. Evan Cox placed 17th as he clocked in at 56.44 in the 400-meter hurdles. Chris Brodnax also turned in a top-20 mark as he placed 20th in the 400-meter dash with 49.01. 

Henry Friederichs and Connor Neufeld-Griffin also competed for the Kingsmen. Friederichs was 39th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:13.39 while Griffin was 42nd in the 800-meter run with 1:58.86. 

The Kingsmen have one final shot to qualify athletes for the NCAA Championships and will be at the Redlands Final Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday.
