Dees Dominates 100m and 200m Dashes at SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 2

PASADENA, Calif. — Junior Obasi Dees led the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen with two first place finishes, Saturday afternoon, in route to the program's 12 top-three finishes at the SCIAC Multi Dual No. 2. As a whole, the men won both duals against Caltech and Whittier. They flew by Caltech 115-34, and just edged out Whittier 80-78 with their performance in the 4x400 relay. 

Dees kicked things off with first in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 10.75 seconds and tying his lifetime personal record set last season at Redlands. He went on to additionally claim the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.05. 

He also joined freshman Hasant Moses-Hillman, senior Trent Mosley and junior Chris Brodnax to take third in the 4x100 relay (42.93 seconds); and later freshman Evan Cox, sophomore Connor Neufeld-Griffin and Brodnax to take second in the 4x400 relay (3:22.88). 

Individually, the relay crew brought in four more top finishes of their own. Cox finished second in both hurdle events, crossing the line in the 110-meter at 15.81 seconds (a lifetime personal record) and the 400-meter at 56.35 seconds. Also in second, Griffin ran a 1:58.58 in the 800-meter run, and Brodnax ran a 48.71-second 400-meter dash, the ninth best time in program history. 

Moving on the field events, senior Anthony Flores finished second in the hammer throw with a 39.97-meter mark, and senior Daniel Avila finished third in the discus throw with a 35.75-meter throw, a three-meter improvement from his last meet and a new career record. Freshman Brendon Carbullido also picked up two strong finishes, taking second in the long jump at 6.46 meters and third in the triple jump at 12.76 meters. 

Looking to keep things rolling, the Kingsmen return to action on Saturday, April 6, at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, California.
