Baza Breaks into Record Books; Javelin Throwers Notch Lifetime PRs at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Junior Rigoberto Baza ran his way into the Cal Lutheran record books at Saturday's Rossi Relays with a lifetime personal record in the 3K run. Joining him, senior throwers Josiah Le Doux-Hayes and Jordan Wiley notched career personal records in the javelin throw. 

Baza clocked in 9:07.06 in the 3K run, good for 39th, and moving him into sixth overall on the program all-time list. Also on the track, teammates sophomore Connor Neufeld-Griffin, freshman Luke VanKeersbilck, Baza and freshman Kyle Penner picked up the team's best finish of the day with sixth (8:40.17) in the 4x800 meter relay. 

Moving on to the field events, Le Doux-Hayes and Wiley went back-to-back at 19th and 20th in the javelin throw. Le Doux-Hayes threw for 34.60 meters and Wiley threw for 34.13 meters, a lifetime personal record for both.

Rounding out the day's top-20 finishes, freshman Connor Judd took 12th in the high jump, clearing 1.68 meters, and senior Anthony Flores also took 12th in the hammer throw, topping out at 41.58 meters. 

The team returns to action on Saturday, March 2, for the SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 hosted by Cal Lutheran at Redlands University. Events kick off at 10 a.m. at the Ashel Cunningham Track.
