Five Kingsmen Finish in Top Ten at Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers

CLAREMONT, Calif. — A duo of sprinters and trio of field athletes combined to give the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen six top ten finishes at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers Invitational, Saturday, in the team's 2019 spring opener. 

Junior Chris Brodnax led the way with two top ten finishes and the team's lone podium finish. He took second in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 49.35 seconds, and also finished tenth in the 200-meter sprint at 22.44. Alongside him in the sprints competition, junior Obasi Dees tied for eighth in the 100-meter dash at 11.02 seconds. 

In the field events, two Kingsmen made their way to the top ten in the long jump. Freshman Brendon Carbullido took fourth at 6.42 meters in his collegiate debut and senior Christian Rivers tied for seventh at 6.24 meters. Joining them, senior Anthony Flores nabbed sixth in the hammer throw at 37.90 meters. 

Other notable moments from the afternoon include freshman Emilio Guajardo winning his heat in the 110-meter hurdles, later taking thirteenth in the finals at 16.77 seconds; and Connor Neufeld-Griffin winning his heat in the one mile run with a lifetime personal record, later taking twelfth in the finals at 4:28.12. 

Also noteworthy were freshman Luke VanKeersbilck and junior Connor Richter who both ran lifetime personal bests in the mile at 4:44.55 and 5:46.80, respectively. 

The Kingsmen return to action in just one week, February 23, at the Rossi Relays Invitational hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Events kick off at 11 a.m. in Claremont, California.
