THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team opened up their 2021 season with a tough matchup as they took on Division II opponent Biola. The Eagles defeated the Kingsmen 8-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The match started with doubles play as Biola jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Junior Corey Karen and freshman Jacob Bear put up a great fight, but fell 8-7 at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Charlie Spina and junior Darvel Lossangoye lost 8-2 at the No. 2 and sophomores Ryan Murphy and Ben Vincze came up short 8-3 at the No. 3.

Biola carried that momentum into singles play as the Eagles shutout the Kingsmen. Karen (No. 2 spot) lost 6-4, 6-3, Lossangoye (No. 3) fell 6-1, 6-1, freshman Shawn Rothermel (No. 4) lost 6-2, 6-2, Bear (No. 5) fell 6-2, 6-4 and Vincze (No. 6) was taken down 7-6, 6-0 as Biola was too much. Spina was putting up a good fight at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-6, but the match was called due to darkness.
