Kingsmen Sweep Double Header

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen played a double-header against the Principia College Panthers and the Puget Sound Loggers, Thursday afternoon. After a delayed start to the day due to weather conditions, the Kingsmen defeated their first opponent, the Panthers, with a final score of 6-3. 

Starting with doubles play, senior Kylel Gillam and freshman Ryan Murphy, No. one doubles, won 6-2. No. three doubles, freshman Hitachi Hu and junior Sebastian Ariza, fell to their opponents in a tiebreaker 7-6 (3). 

Senior Florent Auteil and freshman Matthew Quade, No. two, suffered to their opponents 6-4. 

Extending into singles play, senior Michael Sulahian, No. five singles, was first to finish with a win of 6-2 and 6-2. No. six singles, Ariza, added another win for the Kingsmen with scores of 6-3 and 6-3. 

Freshman Aaron Moylan, No. four singles, increased his singles win streak to six by defeating his opponent 6-3 and 6-4. Guillaume Ruaud, No. three, added another victory, 6-3 and 6-3. Senior, Yahn Gawrit, No. one singles, fell to his opponent 6-3 and 6-3. Junior Jake Haffner, No. two singles, finished the day for the Kingsmen by winning a super tie-breaker, 6-3, 5-7, and 10-6. 

After conclusion of the Regals win against the Loggers, the Kingsmen had their opportunity. With success, the Kingsmen defeated the Loggers, 9-0.

Starting off doubles, Auteil and Quade, No. three doubles, started off on a positive note, winning 6-0. Next, Isaac Pashenkov and Murphy, No. two doubles, continued with a win of 6-2. 

Haffner and his partner Isaiah Volk, in the No. one spot, won 6-4. 

Moving on to singles match-ups, Hu, No. four, won 6-0 and 6-1; Ariza, No. two singles, won 6-1 and 6-1; Gillam, No. three singles, won 6-1 and 6-0; and Pashenkou, No. five singles, won 6-2 and 6-4. 

Haffner, returned to the No. one spot, and added a win for the Kingsmen, 6-1 and 6-4. Lastly, but definitely not the least, freshman Ryen Wagner, No. six singles, won 6-3 and 6-4. 

The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen continue their home stay tomorrow, Friday, March 22, at 2:30 PM, against the Trinity College Bantams.
