THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen took on the No. 33 ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, at home Monday afternoon. A close call, the Kingsmen were up 4-3 in the final moments of the match but fell on the final two courts for a 5-4 loss to the Puckman.
Senior Ransom Braaten and junior Jake Haffner finished first on court two with a win of 8-3. Followed by freshman Aaron Moylan and senior Kylel Gillam on court three, who were just shy of a win, falling 5-8. Finally, senior Yahn Gawrit and sophomore Isaiah Volk finished on court one with a win of 8-7.
To initiate singles play, senior Michael Sulahian fell on court six with scores of 2-6 and 0-6. On court two, Braaten took the first singles win, sweeping 6-4 and 6-2.
On court three, Haffner finished 3-6, 3-6. On court five, Moylan finished with success, taking his opponent to three sets and finishing 6-4, 0-6, and 6-2.
Volk, on court four, took RPI to three sets, but finished just short of a win with scores of 6-4, 3-6, and 0-6. On court one, Gawrit challenged, but was succeeded 6-3, 6-7 (5), and 3-6.
The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen travel to the College of the Desert to play Willamette from Oregon on March 10, at 10 am PST.
