Gawrit Named First Team, Tilly on Second Team

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Cal Lutheran's Yahn Gawrit and Lucas Tilly were named to the 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, which were announced Friday afternoon following a vote by the league's member head coaches.

A junior from Chicago, Ill., Gawrit competed in his first SCIAC action this season after transferring to CLU. In his first season with the team, Gawrit was named First Team All-SCIAC. Yahn competed mostly in the No. 1 singles spot, and also twice at the No. 2. He won four individual matches, including three at the No. 1. In doubles, he played at the No. 1 and won nine matches in all. He competed with Tilly in the SCIAC. The duo played at the No.1 and went 5-1 in those matches.   

Tilly, is a senior from Wenatchee, Calif., played all four years with the Kingsmen. He was named Second Team All-SCIAC. He was one of four seniors that were named to the teams. Tilly competed mostly at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots. He tallied five wins, including three in the SCIAC. In doubles, he played mostly at the No. 1. He won 10 matches throughout the season. In the SCIAC, Tilly competed with Gawrit. The duo was strong at the No. 1 spot and finished the regular season 5-1.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Kikolai Parodi was named the Athlete of the Year, Pomona-Pitzer's Jed Kronenberg earned Newcomer of the Year, Caltech's head coach Mandy Gamble and her staff garnered Coaching Staff of the Year and CMS received the Sportsmanship Award. 

Cal Lutheran qualified for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The Kingsmen head to Claremont, Calif., and take on CMS Friday at 3 p.m.
