Beavers Sweep Kingsmen

PASADENA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team suffered a tough defeat as the Kingsmen were swept by the Caltech Beavers 9-0 Friday afternoon at the Caltech Tennis Courts.

The Kingsmen still have a chance to make it to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament. Their matchup up with the Whittier Poets tomorrow will decide which team is the No. 4 seed.

Caltech won the match wire to wire. The Beavers swept doubles play as Yahn Gawrit and Lucas Tilly lost at the No. 1 spot (8-2), Dara Kashani and Andrew Tufenkian were knocked off at the No. 2 (8-3) and Ransom Braaten and Joshua Legardy lost at the No. 3 (8-5).

The Beavers continued the dominating play in singles. Braaten came up short at the No. 1 (6-4, 6-4), Tilly fell at the No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Michael Sulahian lost at the No. 3 (6-3, 6-1), Sebastian Ariza saw defeat at the No. 4 (6-1, 7-5), Florent Auteil lost at the No. 5 (6-2, 6-4) and Kylel Gillam was defeated at the No. 6 (6-1, 6-0).

Cal Lutheran (4-12, 2-4 SCIAC) ends the regular season with the Whittier as the Kingsmen host the Poets at the Poulson Tennis Courts in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
