Kingsmen Drop SCIAC Opener to Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The California Lutheran men's tennis team won two doubles matches, but the No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens won the dual 7-2 Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The Sagehens improved to 3-0 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. It was the SCIAC opener for the Kingsmen and they dropped to 0-1.

Cal Lutheran won two of the three doubles matches and had a 2-1 lead going into singles. Yahn Gawrit and Lucas Tilly won 8-6 at the No. 1 spot. Andrew Tufenkian and Dara Kashani then made it 2-0 as they claimed the No. 2 spot with a score of 8-5. Pomona-Pitzer made it 2-1 as Joshua Legardy and Ransom Braaten fell at the No. 3 with a score of 8-7.

The Kingsmen got swept in singles, at every spot. Gawrit fell at the No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Braaten retired at the No. 2 (4-1), Tilly dropped his match at the No. 3 (7-5, 6-0), Kashani lost at the No. 4 (6-2, 6-1), Sebastian Ariza was defeated at the No. 5 (6-2, 6-0) and Kylel Gillam lost at the No. 6 (6-1, 6-2).

Cal Lutheran continues SCIAC play Friday as the Kingsmen travel to Orange, Calif., to take on Chapman at 2 p.m.
