Tigers Claw Past Kingsmen

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran men's tennis team put up a tough battle, but the No. 13 Trinity University Tigers took care of the Kingsmen 9-0 Thursday afternoon inside the Poulson Tennis Center.

The Tigers swept the Kingsmen in doubles play and had a 3-0 lead. Yahn Gawrit and Lucas Tilly put up the hardest fight as they came up just short. The duo lost to Trinity at the No. 1 spot with a score of 8-4. CLU's two other doubles groups didn't fare as well. Dara Kashani and Andrew Tufenkian fell 8-3 in the No. 2 spot while Sebastian Ariza and Joshua Legardy lost 8-2 in the No. 3 spot.

For singles, Gawrit showed the best chance for the Kingsmen. He competed at the No. 1 spot and fell in straight sets 6-4, 7-6. Trinity showed why they are the No. 13 team in the nation shut down the rest of the Violet and Gold. Tilly was at the No. 2 and was defeated 6-0, 6-2. Kashani competed at the No. 3 and lost 6-3, 6-3. Ariza fell at the No. 4 (6-0, 6-1), Florent Auteil lost at the No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and Kylel Gillam was defeated at the No. 6 (6-2, 6-3).

Cal Lutheran (0-6) is on the road for its next match. The Kingsmen travel to Sonoma St. and the match is set for Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
