Kingsmen Fall to Banana Slugs

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutherans men's tennis team faced some tough competition as the Kingsmen lost to the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center.

UC Santa Cruz (1-3) claimed all three doubles match and took the lead over CLU (0-2). Ransom Braaten and Dara Kashani fell in the No. 1 spot 8-2, Lucas Tilly and Andrew Tufenkian dropped their point in the No. 2 spot 8-3 and Yahn Gawrit and Michael Sulahian came up just short and fell in the No. 3 spot 8-6.

The Kingsmen got their only point of the match when Sebastian Ariza won in the No. 6 singles spot 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 in a tie breaker.

The Banana Slugs won all the other singles matches as Braaten lost in the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-1), Gawrit fell at the No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), Tilly dropped the decision in No. 3 (6-1, 6-2) and Kashani lost in the No. 4 spot (6-1, 6-0).

Sulahian was close to scoring a second point for the Kingsmen, but he came up just short. He lost in the No. 5 spot on the tie breaker 6-3, 2-6, 10-3.

The Kingsmen are back in action Wednesday as they host Brandies at 3 p.m. in the Poulson Tennis Center.
