Kingsmen Tie Leopards 1-1

LA VERNE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer fell behind and answered the call as JP Melgoza scored in the 80th minute to force a 1-1 tie against the La Verne Leopards on Saturday night.

The Kingsmen are now 3-1-3 in conference and 4-2-5 overall while La Verne is now 2-4-1 in SCIAC and 3-8-2 overall. 

In the first half, Cal Lutheran offense had many chances, but could not convert. The Kingsmen recorded six shots on goal as Preston Fleming had two and Chris Pelaez, Erick Mejia, Bruno Mostajo Torres and Igor Lumbrano each had one. 

The defense handled its business as the Kingsmen only allowed one shot on goal. Davis Sharts made the save and the score was zero to zero at the half.

The Kingsmen continued to have chances in the second half putting up 10 shots on goal in total. Sharts recorded two saves as the Kingsmen and Leopards tied.

After being away for the past two games, the Kingsmen return home. Cal Lutheran starts a four-game homestand on Wednesday with Occidental at 7 p.m.
