Offensive Explosion as Kingsmen Tie Willamette 3-3

SALEM, Ore. — Chris Pelaez recorded a goal and an assist, Matt Myers and Tyler Sherard both scored a goal, and Cal Lutheran men's soccer and the Willamette Bearcats played to a 3-3 tie on Sunday afternoon.

Six different Kingsmen have scored to start the season. Also adding goals this year are Igor Lumbrano, JP Melgoza and Giovanni Torres. In four non-conference games to start the year, the Violet and Gold are 1-1-2. 

The Kingsmen offense exploded for three goals against the Bears, after scoring three goals in the first three games. 

Cal Lutheran got on the board in the 16th minute as Pelaez got the scoring started. Willamette scored their first goal in the 32nd minute and the game was tied at the half. 

The Kingsmen opened the flood gates in the second half. In the 63rd minutes, Myers scored his first goal of the year, with the assist from Pelaez. Cal Lutheran added a third goal three minutes later as Sherard doubled the lead.

Willamette did not back down. The Bears scored a goal 45 seconds later and then scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute. 

The game ended in a tie with combined total of 31 shots. The offenses overpowered the defense as Willamette had 10 shots-on-goal and Cal Lutheran had six. 

Harrison Brown got the start for the Kingsmen and Davis Sharts also saw time. Brown mad five saves, but gave up the three goals. Sharts came in for the final 16:09 and made two saves. 

The Kingsmen continue the season on the road as they start up conference play. Cal Lutheran is at Caltech on  Wednesday at 4 p.m.
