Strong Second Half Lifts Panthers Over Kingsmen

ORANGE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran struggled on the offensive end of the pitch Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field, falling 2-0 to Chapman after two late goals sealed the three points for the hosts.

The Panthers had great success on the attack, outshooting the Kingsmen 14-3 on the afternoon.

Chapman held majority of the possession in the first 45 minutes, but created few clear scoring opportunities despite their heavy advantage in shots. Cal Lutheran defended well and had a few scoring chances of their own, but were unable to grab a foothold in the match. It was a cagey affair and the teams would head into the break with nothing to separate the two sides.

The second 45 minutes would bring much more energy to the contest, as Chapman nearly broke through on two different occasions in the first 10 minutes of the new half.

Antonio Welch was brilliant in goal, making three huge saves to keep his team level.

However, the Panthers would score a very well-worked goal in the 74th minute when Peter Senko produced the finishing touch. The goal was coming for the hosts, managing to eventually break past the CLU backline and find the back of the net.

Chapman would grab a second goal after being awarded a penalty when the Kingsmen goalkeeper fouled Tobi Howe when attempting to punch a cross. Aidan Wall stepped up to the spot and put the game away by slotting his spot kick into the bottom corner.

Tallying shots for Cal Lutheran were Aaron Winsick(2), Matt MyersChris Pelaezand Brandon Chavez.

Cal Lutheran will honor their seniors for their hard work and dedication to the men's soccer program on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. when the Kingsmen host Whittier at William Rolland Stadium.
