Kingsmen Fall to No. 24 Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen entered Saturday night looking to upset No. 24 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags, but struggled to find the back of the net as they fell 3-0.

Senior Jared Pishke opened up the game with the team's lone shot on goal of the match just two minutes into play. The forward drove up the field on his own before a nailing a shot from 20 yards out, but right into the hands of the keeper.

Cal Lutheran saw another chance to score in the 11th minute with a corner taken by freshman Igor Lumbrano, but had their opportunity thwarted once again by the CMS defense who quickly knocked the ball out of the box.

From there, the offensive momentum shifted in favor of the Stags, who broke onto the board in the 22nd minute off a turnover by the Kingsmen that was cleaned up by Ethan Tyng. The forward quickly serviced the ball to William Barton who sent a strike to the top right corner of the goal to put CMS up 1-0.

The Stags continued their pressure in the second period, tacking on two more goals. Tyng tallied one of his own in the 57th minute with a shot to the bottom left corner past the diving Kingsmen goalkeeper, sophomore Cade Leatherman, who missed the ball by just a fingernail, while Leanardo Lindo padded their lead with a put-back goal in the 75th minute.

On the other hand, Cal Lutheran managed just two shots in the back half of the contest. Junior Alon Arnaldes took his chance in the 57th minute with a bullet straight up the middle, but was blocked, and with seven minutes remaining, freshman Justin Magana saw one last opportunity for the Kingsmen, but sailed high of the top bar.

Cal Lutheran now turns their attention to Wednesday, September 19, when they take on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 7 p.m. PST inside of William Rolland Stadium.
