PASADENA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran got goals from Jaime Alvarado, Diego Ortega and Chris Ortiz as the Kingsmen defeated the Caltech Beavers 3-0 Wednesday at North Field.
The Kingsmen improved to 8-3-1 on the year and 6-2-1 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and moved up into the second spot in the SCIAC standings.
Alvarado got the Violet and Gold on the board in the 15th minute. Alvarado worked with Ortega and Stevie Ray Trujillo as he scored his first goal of the season. Ortega and Trujillo each tallied an assist on the play. There was no more scoring for the remainder of the half.
Cal Lutheran picked up in the second half right where they left off as Ortega scored his seventh goal of the season in 55th minute. Brandon Kearney was credited with the assist. Ortiz made it 3-0 in the 86th minute and Ortega recorded his second assist.
Eduardo Garcia was in the goal for the Kingsmen and tallied five saves as he improved his record to 7-3-1 on the year. This was his sixth shutout win of the season.
Altogether, the Kingsmen tallied 36 shots with 21 on goal. Caltech's goalkeeper Joe Como made 18 saves for the Beavers.
CLU continues the season Saturday at 8 p.m. verses the Occidental Tigers in Los Angeles, Calif.
