CHINO HILLS, Calif. — Drake Jones tied for fourth at 11-over-par, just three strokes behind the leader, as he led Cal Lutheran men's golf at the SCIAC Championship Tournament. The Kingsmen placed third at 65-over-par (307-316-306-929).
The SCIAC Championship Tournament was held at the Los Serranos Country Club. The women's teams played on the north course and shot 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
The lone senior for the Kingsmen, Jones impressed in possibly his last collegiate tournament. He started his tournament with 73, but a tough second round got him an 80. He bounced back over the final 18 and carded a 74 for a total of 227 strokes. His 73 and 74 were tied for the lowest and second-lowest rounds at the event. He had the second most birdies at the tournament with 10.
JP Guimaraes Jr. joined Jones in the top-10. He fired a 73 in the tournament, but followed it up with a 78 and 82 as he tied for eighth. He ended the tournament at 17-over-par with 233 strokes.
Derek Hahn and Jimmy Solano rounded out the team score. Hahn moved up five spots on the final day to finish tied for 10th and recorded a score of 18-over-par. He impressed on the final day as he fired a 73. He shot an 81 over the first 18 holes and an 80 over the second for a total of 234 strokes.
Solano placed 13th at 21-over-par. He stayed consistent over the tournament shooting an 80, 78 and 79 for a combined 237 strokes.
Garet Needham also competed for the Kingsmen. Needham placed 17th at 30-over-par (83-83-80-246) and Spar was 18that 35-over-par (83-85-83-251).
The 2021 NCAA Division III men's golf championship selections will be announced here on NCAA.com on Monday, May 3. The championship is May 11-14 at Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia.
