THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's golf team brings experience and depth to the 2020 season as the Kingsmen battle for a conference championship.
The team has a good mixture with the experienced upperclassmen and adds a big group of freshmen. The 2020 Kingsmen are made up of two seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and seven freshmen.
"We are looking forward to another spring season, led by our team captains Stefan Nelson and Ryan Kyaw," said head coach Jeff Lindgren. "The combination of returning players, plus the addition of several new talented freshman gives us a lot of depth. This, along with great practice facilities and a great tournament schedule should provide us the opportunities to compete at the National level."
Nelson and Craig Thorlakson are back for their final collegiate season as they try to lead the Kingsmen to a conference crown. The seniors leadership will be a big component with a young, but experienced team.
The juniors have seen success in their first two seasons. Kyaw is joined by Drake Jones and Jack Woolslayer. Kyaw was a First Team All-SCIAC selection in 2018 and has competed in every tournament since becoming a Kingsmen. Jones has also played in all 19 tournaments the past two seasons and Woolslayer placed 35that the SCIAC Championships last year.
The lone sophomore on the team is Jimmy Solano and he competed in two events in 2018-19.
The biggest class for Cal Lutheran is the freshmen. The Kingsmen welcome seven newcomers and they got great experience during the three season in the fall. The new additions for the Purple and Gold are JP Guimaraes Jr., Derek Hahn, Jack Keivan, Jeffrey Perry, Luke Simoneau, Jordan Stark and Zac Stout.
The Kingsmen start 2020 on Monday and travel to Vista, Calif., for the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational. The invite starts at 8 a.m.
