THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — A grinding fall season was beneficial for the Cal Lutheran men's golf team as they enter their 2020 campaign with confidence and something to prove.
The Kingsmen had an impressive fall and it started with them winning the CA State Intercollegiate. The Purple and Gold followed it up with a fourth and seventh place finish as they sit just outside the top-25, according to Golfstat.
"We had a great fall season with a team stroke average of 289.5," said head coach Jeff Lindgren. "This is the lowest in school history.
"The team has been working very hard over the winter and is excited about our spring tournament schedule which will include trips to San Diego, Palm Springs and San Antonio. We have a lot of talent on this team and look forward to competing for the SCIAC Championship."
The spring season starts on Feb. 3-4, at the Cal State University San Marcos Fujikura Invitational. The Kingsmen will travel to Vista, Calif., to compete at the Shadowridge Golf Club.
The season continues with CLU's first taste of conference action. The SCIAC #1 is hosted by Redlands at the Morongo G.C. in Beaumont, Calif., on Feb. 29 through March 1.
Cal Lutheran has a busy March and will play in three non-conference tournaments. First they travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the Schreiner University Invitational (March 9-10), they return to California for the UCSD Invitational (March 23-24) in Carlsbad and they finish the month with the La Verne Invitational (March 30-31).
The month of April will only be about the SCIAC Championships. The SCIAC #2, which consist of the next two rounds is hosted by Chapman in Tustin, Calif., on the 4-5. The SCIAC Championship is held at the end of the month, the 26-28, as La Verne host the final three rounds.
The winner of the SCIAC Championships receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
