Kingsmen Score 61 First-Half Points, Cruise to 5-0 in Home Opener

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's basketball showed out in its home opener, scoring 61 first-half points, breaking the century mark, and moving their undefeated season to 5-0 as they took down Colorado College 101-69 on Saturday night. 

It was an all-around effort as 13 Kingsmen got into the game, and every one of them scored. 

Mason Johnson and Ryan Grande led the way with 17 points each. Johnson went 6-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Grande was impressive, hitting five three pointers, and also went 6-of-7 from the field. 

Tommy Griffitts, Brooks Mallory and Desi Burrage made it five Kingsmen in double-digits. Griffitts recorded 11 while Mallory and Burrage both had 10. 

Jacob Alonzo (nine), Logan McCullough (seven), Miles Houston (seven), Dallas Johnson (five), Miles Griffin (three), Jake Martin (three), Devon Lewis (one) and Justin Stanziano (one) all contributed to the Kingsmen's 100-plus point performance. 

Cal Lutheran was efficient from all over the court, going 33-of-60 from the field and 13-of-24 from three-point range. 

The Kingsmen forced Colorado College into 27 turnovers, scoring 29 points off them. Cal Lutheran moved the ball around well, dishing out 19 assists, and scored 34 points in the paint. 

The Kingsmen took control of the game, going up 61-33 at the half. The Purple and Gold pushed their lead to 46 early in the second half, their largest lead of the game. 

Cal Lutheran will look to push its win streak to six next Saturday. The Kingsmen head to UC Santa Cruz, and tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
