Kingsmen Open Season with UC Santa Cruz and Linfield

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen basketball teams opens the 2018-19 season at the Slugs Tipoff Classic which is hosted by the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs Friday through Sunday at West Field House and Kaiser Permanente Arena. 

The Kingsmen play two games at the classic. Cal Lutheran will take on UC Santa Cruz Friday at 5 p.m. at West Field House. The Violet and Gold continue the classic with Linfield on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Kaiser Permanente Arena.

The Matchups
Cal Lutheran vs. UC Santa Cruz: The Kingsmen are 25-6 against the Banana Slugs and won both contests last year. CLU won the first game in overtime at home, 91-85. Austin Cole and Kyle Ferreira both scored career-highs with 36 and 28 points, respectively. On the road, the Kingsmen were victorious, 74-73, as Palmer Chaplin drilled a game-winning three-pointer with 1.9 seconds left. 

Cal Lutheran vs. Linfield: The Kingsmen and Wildcats didn't play last year. In fact, the two have only played once in the last decade. They played in 2016-17 and the Kingsmen won, 70-67, on a neutral court.
