Cole and Ferreira earn Second Team All-SCIAC

LOS ANGELES — Cal Lutheran's Kyle Ferreira and Austin Cole have been named to the men's basketball Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Second Team. It was announced Friday morning following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Ferreira earned his first All-SCIAC team nod. He led the Kingsmen in scoring with 18.2 points per game as well as rebounds with seven a game. He also added 3.5 assists and 0.8 steals a game. He scored a career-high 28 points on Nov. 15 against UC Santa Cruz. He scored 20-plus points in 11 out of the 24 games this season. He recorded five double-doubles on the year in points and rebounds. He shot 41.7-percent from the field, 40-percent from the three-point arc and 85.2-percent from the free throw line.

Cole, a native from Redondo Beach, Calif., earned his first All-SCIAC team nod as well. He averaged 17.3 points he game. He also added 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals a game. He scored a career-high 36 points against UC Santa Cruz on Nov. 15 and came close to matching that against Caltech on Jan. 17 with 35 points. He scored 20-plus points in nine out of 24 games. He shot 37.1-percent from the field, 31.2-percent from the three-point line and 86-percent from the free throw line.

Claremont-M-S Michael Scarlett was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, Chapman Reed Smith was the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, Caltech David Kawashima received the Ted Ducey award and Claremont-M-S Ken Scalmanini garnered the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time.
