Hot Shooting Stags Take Down Kingsmen

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. —Cal Lutheran's Kyle Ferreira scored a game-high 23 points, but a hot shooting day from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps allowed the Stags to walk away with a 76-57 victory over the Kingsmen Saturday afternoon inside Gilbert Arena.

Ferreira scored the game-high and added a team-high six rebounds and two steals.

Two more Kingsmen scored double-digits as Austin Cole and Michael Wadsworth chipped in with 12 and 11, respectively. Palmer Chaplin kept the offense moving with a career-high eight assists.

It was a physical game, which featured a lot of defense, especially in the first half. With CLU up 9-8, Cole hit a shot to put the Kingsmen up 11-8. The defenses proved to be too much and Cal Lutheran was only up 13-10 with seven minutes left in the half. The Stags on a run over the next few minutes and took a 20-17. CMS built a six-point lead, but Wadsworth nailed a triple at the buzzer to cut the lead to a one possession game at halftime, 27-24.

The game stayed close for the first part of the second half, before the Stags really caught fire. CMS used run after run and built a sizable lead before eventually winning 76-57. The big differene in the game was field-goal percentage. The Stags finished 55.6-percent from the field and 52.4-percent from three-point range.

The Kingsmen (6-11, 4-6 SCIAC) continue the season on the road and travel to Whittier Wednesday for a game at 7 p.m.
