CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona Pitzer's Adam Reese went 8-for10 from the field and scored 23 points to lead the Sagehens past the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen, 91-55, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup Saturday afternoon in Rains Center.
With the win, Pomona-Pitzer moved to 5-9 overall and improved to 3-2 in SCIAC play. The Kingsmen (3-9, 1-3 SCIAC) suffered the loss after a great shooting day from PP.
The Sagehens' Daniel Rosenbaum had a game-high 11 rebounds and added 17 points for a double-double. The team combined for 23 assists and shot 57.9-percent from the field and 55.9-percent from three-point range.
Kyle Ferreira led the Kingsmen in points, rebounds and assists with 16, six and three, respectively. Michael Wadsworth came off the bench to score nine points. He was 2-for-3 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Connor Cole was perfect from the field and added eight points. Austin Cole and Palmer Chaplin each had five points. A. Cole was held to his season-low in points as he went 0-for-7 from the field, but 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Pomona-Pitzer started the game with three three-pointers and took a 9-3 lead. The Sagehens continued to stay on fire from behind the arc and found themselves up 24-8 with 12:16 left in the half. The Kingsmen fought hard the rest of the half and were able to cut the lead to single-digits at the half, 41-32.
The Sagehens started the second half right where they left in the first and hit their first two three-pointers to go up 47-33. Multiple times, the Kingsmen cut the lead to nine, but the Sagehens would answer each and every time. Pomona-Pitzer continued their hot shooting in the second half and walked away with the 91-55 victory.
The Kingsmen look to rebound against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif., Monday at 7:00 p.m.
