LOS ANGELES – This afternoon the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the Week Eleven Athlete of the Week honorees and Cal Lutheran's Austin Cole was selected as the Men's Basketball AOW.
On Wednesday, Cole helped the Kingsmen basketball team open the season with a win as CLU knocked off UC Santa Cruz, 91-85, in overtime at Gilbert Arena.
A native of Redondo Beach, Calif., Cole led the Violet and Gold past the Banana Slugs with a career- and game-high 36 points. He had an efficient day as he connected on 9-of-17 fields goals, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. He was also 16-of-19 from the free-throw line to help the Kingsmen win the game down the final stretch.
The junior forward filled up the stats while playing the entire game, 45 minutes. He added four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal.
The SCIAC Athlete of the Week series is released each Monday throughout the academic year.
