CLAREMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran football lost to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags, 41-3, on Saturday afternoon at Zinda Field.

The Kingsmen were held to 203 total yards and dropped to 1-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play and 3-4 overall.

The Stags totaled 379 yards with 227 coming on the ground. CMS was 6-of-12 on third down conversions while Cal Lutheran was 5-of-13.

Cal Lutheran quarterback Nick Lasher was held in check and was 12-23 for 87 yards. Running back Isaiah Martin ran the ball 16 times and totaled 63 for an average of 3.9. Jajuan Thomas caught six of Lasher's passes for 37 yards.

Matt Flynn led the defense with 14 tackles, seven solo and seven assisted. Osi Aliu was next with 13, Jordan Gonzalez had seven and Arthur Orta and Jalani Blade had six each.

Kyle Howie did the punting for the Kingsmen and put up great numbers. In five punts, he averaged 40.2, with a long of 51, and dropped two inside the 20-yard line.

The first quarter was all about defense as neither team could get a touchdown. The only points came from the foot of Cal Lutheran placekicker Daniel Burgos as a 27-yard field goal had the Violet and Gold up 3-0 heading to the second.

The Kingsmen defense forced a three-and-out and then stopped the Stags on a fourth-down play to hold CMS to zero points in the first. Kiki Mendoza and Orta made the stop at Cal Lutheran's 23-yard line.

The second quarter went to CMS as the Stags scored two touchdowns and made a field goal to take a 17-3 lead at the half. CMS carried that momentum into the second half and coasted to a conference win.

The Kingsmen return to William Rolland Stadium for Homecoming next week. Cal Lutheran host Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m.
